Been longing to get this...
Basically cask strength Talisker. I’ve long been a fan of the 10, but the Dark Storm disappointed me.
Waiting for the right moment to open it though, really hope it’s good.

Anddddd now I need more scotch.

My decanter is empty. :(
Been trying to get another Lagavulin 8 for while now, but it’s never in stock. 16 will do.

Was there a Dark Storm, or are you just referring to Storm? I thought it was OK, then again I think I paid $30 for it on closeout.
I haven’t seen 57 anywhere...

Nope, Dark Storm . It was a travel exclusive. Supposedly a smokier version of the Storm.
Problem I found was the smoke way overpowered the Talisker signature that I was looking for, the briny taste.

We have lots of those, it’s actually more common than the 57. I think it’s actually a regular line now. Was debating between that or this.

Looks good! Let us know how it is I’ve always wanted to try a talisker but too broke to pull the trigger.

I’m about to move to Canada so you might as well break it to me....how expensive is the alcohol really?

Depends. If you’re moving anywhere other than Ontario or BC you’ll probably be okay. An example: I was able to have a bottle of Old Pulteney 17 sent from a cheap province. Here in BC it’s $190.39 CDN ($149 US) with tax. The province I had it sent from? $119.98 CDN ($94 US). In the states it’s around $80 US.

I too just bought a bottle. I noticed our supplies in the province were dwindling and I worried if I waited any longer I’d miss out. Had a friend over for a tasting of
some other scotch
on the weekend and he assured me the Talisker was very, very good. This from a Scot, that isn’t a fan boi of Talisker in general, that has a dislike for NAS, and works at Vancouver’s premier whisky bar. Trying to wait until the holidays to open it.

Damn :(
Ontario is expensive...I need a drink.

There is good news though. Craft beer is everywhere and much closer to normal in cost. :-)x

And wines, too. Some VQAs are actually decent. Personal faves so far are Colaneri Estate Insieme Red Blend and Reif Estate Magician Pinot Noir Shiraz Blend. Love the complexities.

I notice the 57 comes and go, it was OOS for the longest time then came back out of nowhere when I was ready to ask a friend to get me one from AB. I guess Diageo is playing demand marketing games.

On the note of Diageo playing games... I think further evidence of this are Caol Ilas coming back in stock around the holidays. Those never seemed available ever.

This one is too rich for my blood too, lol... but I figured just one high-end bottle to savour for year end isn’t too much.

Absolutely. For the last two years the only Caol Ilas you could buy here were the unpeated versions. A marketing push. Last week I was in our central signature store and they had the 12 year old. With a good possibility they only received a case or two, and with a cost of only $80, I grabbed one. To this day it’s still not listed on the website. Greasy.

Well the 12 I’m not too concerned, that’s like regular stock at duty free I’m flying soon. Plus I got a bottle for my friend so I can always just storm his place for a dram, lol.
What I really want to try is the 15 Natural Cask Strength, I’ve heard lots of good things about that. Never seen at a duty free but LiquorDepot in AB seems to have it as regular stock.

We can get the 16 easily around here, but the 8 is harder to find for whatever reason. The 16 is sublime, but I kinda like the heat in the 8 a little more.

Oh yeah, 16 is definitely regular stock. Another rare one is the 12.
What I meant was I think Diageo announced earlier that 8 will be regular soon.

Haven’t heard of that one before. *Goes to google. Yeah, but it’s unpeated... :-)x
If you’re looking for this, you may also like Gordon & MacPhail “Cask Strength”. It’s a line of different distilleries. Non-chill filtered with no color added. In the line is an 11 year Caol Ila at 60.5%. Found one last year (they usually appear between Christmas and April) and still haven’t opened it. It’s another on the list to try this holiday season.

I saw that last time at the Vancouver airport. Was tempted but I think I already used my quota by the time I saw it.
